CAMBRIDGE - Roger L. Hubbard, passed away in the Mallard Bay Care Center, on
Friday, Oct. 31, 2008. He was 86. He was born at Cassons Neck on July 26,
1922, and was a son of the late Charles Albert and Sarah Frances Hubbard.
Roger attended schools in Cambridge, graduating from Cambridge High School
in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 18, 1943 until he received his
Honorable Discharge on Jan. 1, 1946. While serving in the Army, he had
served in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines. He was awarded the
American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, World War II
Victory Ribbon, as well as the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze
Star. As a young man he had worked for the Phillips Packing Co. After World
War II, Roger worked at the Cambridge Wire Cloth Co. for 43 years, until he
retired in July of 1984. He was a member of Dorchester Post 91 American
Legion, as well as Choptank Memorial Post 7460 V.F.W. For many years, Roger
was a champion pool player, as well as checker player. He had been in
failing health for the past two years and had been a patient at the Mallard
Bay Care Center for the past month, when he passed away on Friday. He was
preceded in death by a daughter, Linda M. Cannon; a son Roger L. Hubbard
Jr.; and two sisters and five brothers. Survivors include three daughters,
Susie Kahl Smith and her husband Charlie Smith, of Crapo, Rita A. Turri and
her husband Ralph Turri, of Easton, and Tina R. Travers and her husband
Eugene Travers Jr., of Cambridge; two sons, R. Keith Hubbard of Savannah,
Ga., and Stephen E. Hubbard and his wife Kim Hubbard, of Cambridge; 11
grandchildren, Brian Cannon, Missy LeCompte, Kevin Kahl, Amanda North,
Kaitlyn Turri, Alex Turri, Rachael Harrison, Christopher Hubbard, Brittany
Hubbard, Tyler Hubbard, and Nicholas Hubbard; and several nieces and
nephews. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Thomas
Funeral Home in Cambridge, with the Rev. Pardee Bramble officiating.
Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock. The
family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Smith, Christopher Hubbard, Brian Cannon, Eugene
Travers Jr., Kevin Kahl, and Jody LeCompte. |
